The Kingdom wins the first round after 20 years

The American newspaper Politico documented this historic moment, as the Kingdom obtained 119 votes out of 265, or more than two-thirds of the total votes.

This means that under BIE rules, there was no need to organize a second round of voting, and this is the first time in 20 years that a candidate has won in the first round.

According to Okaz newspaper, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stated that the Kingdom’s success in winning the right to host Expo 2030 came due to its effective interaction with partners, listening to their opinions and understanding their expectations, in addition to communicating with other countries to propose investment opportunities. The minister stressed that the vote was an expression of the international community's confidence in the Kingdom's strategic vision 2030.

The newspaper also indicated that Rome expressed its regret for the lack of European Union countries’ support for the Italian file, especially after French President Emmanuel Macron announced last year France’s support for the Saudi file.
